Mike Derbyshire enters Ward 2 race for Council

Sherwood Park News Article

(Jan 16, 2025)

Mike Derbyshire is running as a Ward 2 candidate for the 2025 Municipal Election in Strathcona County. Election Day is set for Oct. 20.  Having already been busy out knocking on doors and engaging with Ward 2 residents, Derbyshire said people should place an ‘X’ next to his name on Oct. 20 because he can hit the ground running once elected as he’s presented to council and he’s knowledgable about the workings of municipal government through his various boards.

Letters to the Editor - Respect for transit workers

Sherwood Park News Article

(Dec 05, 2024)

I firmly support the Strathcona County Transit (SCT) operators in their pursuit of fair treatment, equitable compensation and job security. The fact that one-third of SCT operators lack benefits, pensions, and job security is deeply concerning. Non-permanent operators working excessively long shifts, facing decade-long waits for fair pay, and having to reapply for their own positions contradicts the county’s reputation as an employer of choice.

Letters to the Editor - Lavender honoured with park opening

Sherwood Park News Article
(Sep 05, 2024)

Kudos to Mattamy Homes for honouring a community volunteer, Helen Lavender, when naming their newest park in the development, instead of a bland place name like Cambrian Park or something similar. Her record as one of Strathcona County’s unsung heroes making our community a better place for all of us is worthy of such a recognition. Well done!
