Strathcona County Councillor-Elect for Ward 2

Strathcona County Councillor-Elect for Ward 2Strathcona County Councillor-Elect for Ward 2Strathcona County Councillor-Elect for Ward 2

I'm Mike Derbyshire, and I’m honoured to put my name forward to serve as your next Councillor for Ward 2 in Strathcona County!

The launch video above marked the start of an exciting journey. Since that day, my team and I have knocked on more than 12,000 doors. We deliberately held off on building my platform until we’d spoken with over 2,000 residents—because I believe the job of a councillor is to listen first. And residents were clear about their priorities: affordability, traffic and public safety, seniors’ supports and recreation, and the need for a long-term plan as our County prepares to nearly double its urban population in the coming decades.

My campaign is built on the idea that experience matters—that if you want to serve as an elected official, you need the skills and expertise to be effective from day one. I’ve led teams ranging from 5 to 500 and managed budgets from thousands to hundreds of millions of dollars. I’m also deeply involved in our community. For the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Heartland Housing Foundation, helping bring affordable housing to the region. I also serve on the board of the Boys and Girls Club, and on the building committee for the Saffron Sexual Assault Centre, among other volunteer roles.

I spent 26 years as a police officer, retiring as an Inspector leading a division of 150 officers. Since then, I’ve served as Director of Security for Edmonton Transit, Vice President at Servus Credit Union, Vice President at Northlands, and most recently as CEO of a company with over 500 employees and $100 million in annual revenue.

I know how to run organizations. I know how to manage budgets, lead teams, and make tough calls. I’ve built consensus across politics, business, and community—and that’s what the next Council needs: experienced leadership.

I’m not just a guy with opinions—I’m someone who gets results.

But this campaign isn’t just about me—it’s about you and what matters most to our community.

I want to hear from you! What issues do you want to see prioritized by the next Council? Drop a comment on any of my socials, or send me a message—let’s make sure your voice is heard.

If you’d like to get involved, or if you just want to sit down for a coffee and chat about the issues that matter to you, don’t hesitate to reach out at mike@mikederbyshire.ca.
